Off the Shelf Festival of Writing and Reading

11th October 2008 to 1st November 2008

Various Locations

The Off the Shelf Literature Festival features readings by well known authors, workshops, storytelling, competitions, family events, and literary walks with a programme to suit all tastes.

The Off the Shelf Literature Festival is now in its 17th year and features over 150 events at a variety of venues including the Showroom Cinema, the City Hall, the Universities, the Quaker Meeting House, local libraries and community centres. The festival programme includes readings by nationally recognised authors and poets. It provides a platform for local authors and writers' groups as well as lots of half term events for children, competitions and a few quirky literary events. Ticket prices are kept as low as possible and many events, particularly in libraries are free. Most events are in venues with full disabled access.

Authors and events already booked for this year include Alan Sillitoe, David Gutterson, Sir David King, Jeremy Bowen, Sir Arnold Wesker, Ian McMillan, Daljit Nagra, Hannah Hawkswell and a trip to Howarth to visit the Bronte Parsonage.
