Sheffield Philharmonic Chorus
1st November 2008
City Hall
Start Time: 7:30pm
Sheffield International Concert Season 2008/9 present the Sheffield Philharmonic Chorus and Harlequin Brass with conductor Darius Battiwalla.
The evenings programme will include Bruckner’s Ecce Sacerdos and Ave Maria, Gabrieli’s Choral and Brass music and Rutter’s Gloria.
John Rutter is responsible for many of the most popular Christmas carols and choral arrangements. Tonight we hear his Gloria, one of several major choral works that have become established as cornerstones of any choir's concert programming. Bruckner's motets are intimate works and express the composer's deeply personal religious faith. As well as performing with the choir, Harlequin Brass have their own solo spot to open the concert, performing renaissance polyphony by Gabrieli.
