Sheffield Doc/Fest 2008

5th November 2008 to 9th November 2008

Various Locations

Start Time: 9:00am

Sheffield Doc/Fest is a film festival, industry session programme and marketplace, offering discussion panels, film-maker master-classes and many screenings and interviews open to the public.

The 15th Doc/Fest will screen over 140 films, organised into several strands, highlighting the current trends of documentary film making. The strands include Green, Bent, Anti Doc, Sports, Music, Regime Change and Kinky docs.

As the world’s first documentary festival to be CO2 neutral, Doc/Fest is committed to showcasing the best films investigating environmental issues with the Green strand.

The Anti Doc strand showcases ‘documentaries with bite’ that challenge the form of traditional documentary film making and deliver messages through unconventional modes.

Doc/Fest’s Sport strand showcases the best films in this field and the opening film is Thriller in Manilla, the famous boxing fight told from the viewpoint of Joe Fraizer.

As Doc/Fest 2008 will open just after the announcement of the next US President, this year’s festival will be led by a series of films that investigate Regime Change. Doc/Fest will highlight the best documentaries from around the world that interrogate and celebrate the impact of a ‘shift in power’ on our everyday lives.

Also new for 2008, Doc/Fest’s strand of Kinky docs will surprise and stimulate as they explore the sexual, the not so sexual, the outrageous and their related politics.
