In time for the festive season, Sheffield University presents "Company", one of Stephen Sondheim's hilarious musical comedies, centred around Bobby and his inability to commit to a serious relationship.
As part of Sheffield University Autumn Concert Season 2008
Winner of the Tony Award for Best Musical, "Company" is a witty, acerbic and sophisticated look at relationships, first staged in 1970. It features a dazzlingly energetic score containing several of Stephen Sondheim's best-known songs (including "Another Hundred People", "The Ladies Who Lunch" and "Being Alive"). By turns funny, sardonic and moving, this is one of Sondheim´s most memorable and original musicals.
Set in New York, "Company" tells the story of five quirky, memorable couples and their mutual single friend Robert. Bobby turns 35 at the beginning of the show, and seems to have everything: good looks, charm, and a great sense of humour. So why on earth is he is still a bachelor? (Although never short of a girlfriend or two!) In "Company" Bobby listens to the five couples and witnesses the wonders and pitfalls of relationships.
